CROMMAEA, a multimedia installation combining glass and imagery, was on view in the windows of Pilchuck's Pioneer Square space. It is a collaboration between artists Alana Biffert and Marta Gorski exploring voyeurism, body image, and the double-ended perspective of the lens. To go deeper into the themes of their exhibition, the artists interviewed Dr. Jennifer Gunsaullus, a sociologist, coach, and author of "From Madness to Mindfulness, Reinventing Sex for Women." Art + Economics: An Unlikely Duo

This lecture introduces the value of economics in the culture industry and demonstrates the benefit of applying mathematical equations to art practice. When these calculations are paired with the core values of the arts industry, the artists gain an opportunity to increase their ability to communicate the monetary value of their work. This talk is the foundation for a future webinar series that will dig deeper into project management theories, financial calculations, and operational decisions.

TOUCHSTOP: DE-LITE: PENETRATING THE DEPTHS OF THE FEMALE EXPERIENCE

TouchStop: De-Lite is the newest three month installation exhibit at Pro-Arts that launched on June 7 and features over 30 sculpted glass phalluses. The art pieces are housed in a 10-foot glass window enclosure that faces the pathway to the city hall plaza in Oakland, California: every person walking to their city job will pass an array of colourful, angular glass dicks.

“Alana [Biffert] and Marta [Gorski’s] exhibition is more of an inward thinking element,” Malec elaborates.  “How people evaluate each other. How people perceive each other. An analysis of who we are as human beings. Global culture. How we are integrating with each other… A more structured work. Clearly defining the experience through a lens.” MACROMEA is dimensional and ambiguous, creating an uncomfortable distance that resists bridging but demands the attempt.
